Inetec are pleased to welcome Gareth Nicholas to their team in the role of Contracts Administrator. Gareth joined Inetec on the 9th September in the newly created role and will be responsible for working with the external lawyers on all things legal in relation to both Inetec and EnCycle.

First EnCycle plant granted planning permission

First EnCycle plant granted planning permission Europe's first food waste to renewable electricity power station, to be located close to Immingham Docks in NE Lincs, has been granted planning permission by NE Lincs Council. The plant, to be developed by EnCycle, will divert up to 180,000 tonnes of waste away from landfill and generate around 24MW of green electricity for supply to the national grid.

The changing trends of food waste disposal

Every year in the UK it is estimated that around 30% of food which is purchased from retail outlets is thrown away by consumers. Most of this is items that have past their sell by date and it is often discarded still in its packaging. Recent studies have shown that as many as 30,000 more ready meals or chilled food items are being purchased per month than during the same month in 2005. This is a huge 15% increase and this trend looks set to continue as convenience becomes even more important within our western culture.

EnCycle Emerges as positive solution to food waste EnCycle, the special purpose vehicle arm of UK based Inetec, is soon to begin construction of its first renewable energy centre powered by food and non-recyclable packaging waste. The project is being built in the NE Lincs region at a cost of £69 million.

Over the past decade as quality of these foods has improved more people now consume these as part of their daily diet over freshly cooked foods. Although convenient the production of these consumables has presented a problem to food producers throughout the UK.

Waste today, Green Energy Tomorrow As we move forward into the 21st Century there is increasing concerns over the future of our energy supply. Increasing populations and demand for electricity mean that by the year 2020 it is estimated the world will be using 22trillion KWh of electricity. This figure is 10trillion KWh more than was being used in 1996. Coupled with the growing concerns over global warming this poses a real problem for energy companies the world over due to restrictions on fossil fuel usage and emissions.
