The Environment
Global warming has been an issue which has been around for decades but has only really come into the spotlight in the last twenty years. Modern technology has allowed scientists the world over to study how the climate has changed over the previous millennium and then create to models to create realistic predictions of how the climate will change during the new millennium.
What many of these scientists have discovered is quite alarming. Many of the predictions focus on the increased emissions given off into the atmosphere as the main contributory factor in global warming, which is why steps must be taken to reduce this area of pollution before it is too late.
In Britain alone models suggest that a climate change of between 2 and 4 degree centigrade are likely to occur by 2080. Globally figures are predicted to be much higher at around 7 degrees by the end of the 21 century. However, it is not the temperatures of the countries which will change the shape off the world. It is the changing temperatures in the polar regions which will define the world in 2100. Temperatures here are currently increasing at almost double that of elsewhere in the world. Around 98% of the world glaciers are currently melting and if they continue to do so at the current rate by the year 2100 it is estimated that the world’s sea level will be as much as three feet higher than they currently are.
